This jacket uses Horween full-grain horsehide processed with 100% vegetable tanning and finished with a full aniline dye. Horween’s #8 formula produces a deep burgundy-brown tone with natural color variation across the hide. Aniline finishing leaves the grain structure exposed without heavy topcoat protection—surface marks, scratches, and wear patterns develop visibly as the jacket is used.

Vegetable-tanned horsehide at this weight (approximately 3–3.5 oz) starts stiff and requires consistent wear to break in. The hide softens at stress points—elbows, shoulders, and waist—while retaining structure across the back and chest. Aniline-finished leather absorbs oils and moisture from handling, which accelerates patina development and deepens color variation over time.

The Type 2 cut is derived from mid-century workwear truckers: shorter body length, tapered waist, and minimal collar height. This geometry works on motorcycles with upright or slightly forward riding positions but lacks the extended back coverage and articulated sleeves of purpose-built motorcycle jackets.
