Horsehide has tighter grain structure and higher tensile strength than cowhide due to denser collagen fiber bundles. It resists abrasion better at equivalent thickness and develops surface grain movement (pull-up) where the leather lightens under tension and darkens when relaxed. The Chromexcel process amplifies this effect—the hide will show color shift with flexing and wear. The stuffed oils allow the leather to absorb impacts without cracking and provide inherent water repellency, though prolonged saturation will still penetrate.

The jacket uses the classic Perfecto asymmetric front zipper and offset belt.
